SLCP (Social & Labor Convergence Program) is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder initiative with a core mission to eliminate the duplication of social responsibility audits in global supply chains by replacing them with a unified assessment framework. This allows companies to redirect resources from repetitive audits to actual improvement efforts.
I. Core Objectives and Philosophy
1. Core Philosophy: One assessment, shared by many.
2. Core Objectives:
Reduce audit fatigue: Suppliers only need to complete one SLCP assessment, and the report can be shared with multiple brand clients, avoiding multiple similar audits due to different client standards.
Improve data comparability: All participants use a unified tool (CAF), making data from different factories and years comparable.
Promote continuous improvement: Save time and funds to improve workers' working conditions instead of paying for duplicate audit fees.
II. Process
1. Self-Assessment: Factories enter data through the online system or a hosted platform.
2. Third-Party Verification: On-site verification is conducted by an independent verifier or organization, including management interviews, worker interviews, etc.
3. Data Sharing: Verified results are shared with stakeholders through the SLCP hosted platform.
III. Assessment Content (CAF Framework)
The SLCP assessment framework (CAF) covers the following three main categories:
1. Recruitment & Hiring
2. Working Hours
3. Wages & Benefits
4. Worker Treatment
5. Worker Involvement
6. Health & Safety
7. Termination
8. Management Systems
9. Business Ethics (new in 2023)
IV. Common Misconceptions Clarified
Misconception 1: SLCP is a certification.
Correction: It is a data collection and verification process. The result is a verification report, not a certificate.
Misconception 2: SLCP replaces all other audits.
Correction: It aims to replace basic social responsibility audits, but brands may still require additional assessments specific to their codes of conduct.
Misconception 3: SLCP sets compliance standards.
Correction: It only provides data. Brand clients interpret whether the data is "compliant" based on their own codes of conduct.
